Tomorrow is my 39th birthday. Where most people that I know who were getting close to 40 were upset, I’m not. I look forward to it. I’m happy that I’m turning 39. The last five years have been really great compared to my life before that.
I’m here to tell you that even if your life has sucked for years, it can get better. The trick is, though, you have to be brave enough to make a change. And that change isn’t always easy. Often, that change (even just the thought of it) can seem scarier than what you’re going through. You think you don’t deserve happiness. You think that you won’t make it. You think that you’ll fail. You think that change will make things worse.
Change does make things uncomfortable, at least for a little while. Change is definitely scary. Everyone deserves to be happy. You can make it if you devote yourself to the entire process…that means doing things you’ve probably never done or simply not giving up. It means changing your thought process. It means recognizing that no one is successful 100% of the time, but successful people (happy people) are successful (happy) because they make cognizant choices each day in their lives.
If happiness is too much for you to consider right now, then just consider contentment. Consider making changes in your life that allow you to become more content. And, as time goes on, you can add to those changes. As you begin to build confidence within yourself, you can continue to do more good for yourself…which means you will ultimately do more good within your community and for the world.
